Environmental Quality Standards for Water Pollution

The Ministry of the Environment of Japan has established environmental quality standards for air, water, soil, and noise as appropriate criteria for protecting human health and conserving the living environment. The "Environmental Quality Standards for Water Pollution" are environmental quality standards relating to the pollution of public water bodies, which include (1) environmental quality standards for protection of human health and (2) environmental quality standards for conservation of the living environment. (1) Environmental quality standards for protection of human health have been established as standard values for 27 items, including cadmium, total cyanide, lead, arsenic, total mercury, and PCBs, for all public water bodies. (2) Environmental quality standards for conservation of the living environment have been established as standard values for 8 to 11 items, including pH, BOD, COD, SS, DO, and total coliform, for each public water body of rivers, lakes, and coastal waters. Fujifilm Wako supplies a wide range of reagents specified in the measurement methods of the Standards.
